The euphoria from the unforgettable Do\u010dek in the Suburbium of the Petrovaradin Fortress is slowly calming down, the impressions are settling down, and with our sincere congratulations and wishes for a happy and successful 2024, we bring you an overview of the events in the city where culture never sleeps. January in Novi Sad will also be marked by the artistic celebration of Do\u010dek 7532, so it’s time to prepare for the spectacular programme that awaits us at almost 40 locations in the city on 13 January. If you haven’t secured your tickets for some of the great performances by local and international artists, here’s a tip \u2013 write it on your bucket list! Until then, check out our suggestions and jot down some of these events in your planner.<\/p>

Whom will perform at 7532 Do\u010dek?<\/strong><\/h2>

After the spectacular entry into the year 2024 and the Do\u010dek event, which gathers artists, performers and numerous visitors in Suburbium, we are eagerly awaiting Do\u010dek 7532<\/strong>. This artistic celebration will not only mark the continuity of life in these areas, but will also celebrate the richness of Novi Sad’s interculturality, leading us through unusual concert venues and a diverse programme.<\/p>

The District,<\/strong> as a new center of artistic creativity, is one of the main locations for Do\u010dek 7532<\/strong>, where the young scene of Serbia will be presented, bringing new sounds and trends to the Novi Sad audience. On New Year’s Eve, we listen to the bands KOIKOI, Kenny is not dead, Zhiva<\/strong> (read the interview HERE<\/a>), Jowam and Rouzi<\/strong>, who will perform starting at 9 p.m.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The evening of 13 January will be filled with the sounds of harp and accordion virtuosos such as Catrin Finch<\/strong> and Richard Galliano<\/strong>, as well as music from the greatest film classics performed by the Novi Sad Big Band<\/strong>. At the same time, we will enjoy the authentic Turkish electro trio Islandman<\/strong> and the post-punk quartet from Liverpool Ladytron,<\/strong> as well as the recognizable names of the domestic electronic scene Marko Nasti\u0107, Runy and 2MUCH.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

These performers join already announced prestigious names from the Berlin, London, Portuguese and French scenes, including electro star Matthew Johnson,<\/strong> alternative rock band Flamingods,<\/strong> fado diva Gisela Joao<\/strong> and one of the best a cappella groups – A Filetta.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>

The uniqueness of Do\u010dek is the presentation of big regional names in a different way. Vlatko Stefanovski<\/strong> in the newly opened cultural station on Telep, a guest appearance by Marko Louis and the Sopot band<\/strong> with the symphony orchestra of the National Theatre of the Republic of Srpska on the \u2018Pera Dobrinovi\u0107\u2019 stage in the Serbian National Theatre. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The musical experience will be diverse, from Lena Kova\u010devi\u0107<\/strong>‘s jazz at the Bukovac Cultural Station, through the favourite pop singer \u017deljko Vasi\u0107<\/strong> at the Egys\u00e9g Cultural Station, to the concert of the popular pop-rock group Neverne Bebe<\/strong> at the Stepanovi\u0107evo Cultural Station. The alternative sound will dominate the scene in NIS, because Kanda, Kod\u017ea i Neboj\u0161a <\/strong>will have an unplugged performance. In the spirit of the Serbian New Year, nurturing tradition, Bra\u0107a Teofilovi\u0107<\/strong> will perform for the audience at the Kovilj Cultural Station, the Neda Nikoli\u0107 Trio<\/strong> with guest Danijela Veselinovi\u0107<\/strong> at the Barka Cultural Station, while one of the most prominent choirs in Serbia, Collegium Musicum<\/strong>, will perform at the Rumenka Cultural Station.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In Novi Sad, where culture pulsates at every step, even during the cold months, we strongly recommend that you take the time to walk around the centre and District, where several exhibitions worth your attention await you right now. Head from the Liman Park towards the District, where the sculpture dedicated to the pioneer of electronic music in this region, Mitar Suboti\u0107 Suba, will first attract your attention. Residents of Novi Sad and visitors have a unique opportunity to see the work of the famous Gustav Klimt in the Gallery of Matica Srpska! The Paja Jovanovi\u0107 and Gustav Klimt<\/em> exhibition, which continues to attract the attention of the public, marks an era through the works of two artists, in cooperation with as many as three museums: the Gallery of Matica Srpska, the Art and History Museum in Vienna and the Belvedere Gallery. While you’re at GMS, don’t miss the exhibition Pomori\u0161ac \u2013 Vasa Pomori\u0161ac<\/em><\/strong>, which will reveal to you the classic art of this artist through a modern perspective. January in Novi Sad is a sign of supreme art!<\/p>

In the Theatre<\/strong><\/h2>

January in Novi Sad cannot pass without a visit to one of the city’s theatres, and this month’s repertoire includes interesting performances that promise an excellent dose of art.<\/p>

In the repertoire of the oldest theatre in Serbia, the Serbian National Theatre, there is one of the favourite ballets of this theatre \u2013 Zorba the Greek<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, which you can enjoy on 12 January. Our recommendation this month is also the play \u00a0Bila Jednom Jedna Zemlja<\/em><\/strong><\/a> directed by Kokan Mladenovi\u0107 (17 and 18 January), then the Reunification of the Two Koreas <\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(24 January) \u2013 a play that premiered at the end of November 2023. Don’t miss the ABBA Simphonic Real Tribute Show<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, scheduled for 26 January at 8 p.m. To round off the month, book an evening for a new performance of La Traviata<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, also premiering in November 2023.<\/p>

The first puppet theatre in Vojvodina \u2013Youth Theatre, this month also brings us exceptional performances for the youngest as well as older audience. We highlight the premiere performance of the play Wedding Bells<\/em><\/strong> on 30 January, while on the same day the repertoire includes the Bele\u0161ke Jedne Ane<\/em><\/strong>, based on the novel of the same name by Momo Kapor, directed by Mom\u010dilo Miljkovi\u0107. In the Novi Sad Theatre this month, we can see Anna Karenina<\/strong>, directed by Dejan Projkovski, and we also highlight the play Captain Nemo<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 based on the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea<\/em>, directed by Zolt\u00e1n Pusk\u00e1s.<\/p>

The holiday euphoria continues<\/strong><\/h2>

The spirit of the holiday is still present in Novi Sad, and while we look forward to the Orthodox Christmas, and then Do\u010dek 7532, we highly recommend a visit to the Christmas Magic<\/em><\/strong><\/a> festival on the plateau in front of SC Promenada. For the third year in a row, it traditionally gathers curious visitors, and the interesting music programme lasts until 10 January.<\/strong> Special joy for the youngest is provided by the Winter Wonderland<\/em> festival entertainment area, as well as treats that you can buy in festively decorated wooden houses.<\/p>

This January, take your little ones to the Novosadske De\u010dje BIG Zimzarije<\/em><\/strong>, which last until 12 January at SC BIG, and you can find the programme here<\/a>. Fans of skating under the stars, in the beautifully decorated Danube Park, will enjoy the Ice Forest<\/strong><\/a> until 14 January.<\/p>
