Kaleidoscope of Culture in Novi Sad is entering its second week, a week dedicated to literature, during which the District will be transformed into a large open-air museum dedicated to Aleksandar Tišma. The Tišma Pavilion, a unique new media event, will take place on 13 and 14 September. At the Tišma Pavilion, visitors will have the opportunity to see exhibitions, attend performances, engage in discussions with award-winning authors, participate in book exchanges, and enjoy many other interesting programmes.
Throughout the Literature Week, starting at 7 p.m. on both days, an interactive exhibition titled ’The Use of Man’ will be open at the Proizvodnja facility. The exhibition will symbolically depict the universal experience of war through three sections, taking us from the pre-war, relatively peaceful period, through the atmosphere of camps and destruction, to the post-war era, reflecting the transformation of both collective and individual experiences.
In addition to the exhibition ’The Use of Man,” another exhibition at the Tišma Pavilion will focus on the impressive oeuvre of this author – the factual exhibition ’Remember Forever: Aleksandar Tišma’ at the Menza facility.
On the first evening of the second week of Kaleidoscope of Culture, Friday, 13 September, the play ’The Use of Man’ by Aleksandar Tišma, dramatized by Fedora Šilija and Boris Liješević, will be performed. The play will feature several actors who will seamlessly transition from character to character, openly displaying the process of creating situations, making this vast epic story of war and humanity both scenically simple and narratively and meaningfully accessible.
As part of the Tišma Pavilion, on Saturday, 14 September, at 9 p.m., a dance performance titled ’Bark’, inspired by Aleksandar Tišma’s novel ’Faith and Treason,’ will be presented by the dancers of ’Vuk Karadžić’ Cultural Association from Temerin. Incorporating elements of both contemporary and traditional dance, this performance tells a story from the past of Novi Sad, discussing people whose lives and identities were changed by wartime events, and exploring the eternal dilemma of what causes evil to emerge from within a person.
Major Regional Literary Figures in the Second Week of Kaleidoscope of Culture
During the Literature Week of this year’s Kaleidoscope of Culture, guest authors will include Rumena Bužarovska and Stevo Grabovac. On Friday, 13 September, the renowned writer will discuss one of the greatest Serbian literary figures, Aleksandar Tišma, while the winner of the NIN Award will speak on Saturday, 14 September. Both discussions will take place at the Biro facility, starting at 8 p.m.
The literary programe ’Together Alone’ will be held at Skladište as part of the Tišma Pavillion. On the first day of the programe, Friday, 13 September, a short story creative writing workshop led by Dubravka Rebić and Aleksandar Tanurdžić will take place at 6 p.m. On the second day, Saturday, 14 September, at 7 p.m., there will be a discussion with authors about the novels ’Lakrimarijum,’ ’Noć Pre Pada U Reku,’ ’Buntovnica U Senci,’ and ’Rodna Gruda,’ exploring the topics of identity and belonging in these works. Admissionme to both programs is free. It is necessary to register for the creative writing workshop via Google Form.
An art installation titled ’Memories from the Attic,’ which explores techniques for creating personal identity through various forms of archives (tapes, letters, photographs, etc.), will be open at Radionica from 7 p.m.
During the Tišma Pavilion, the District will feature stage programmes that bring Tišma’s work to life, including artistic installations such as Knjiga o Blamu, Bez Krika, Najgore Noći, Nasilja, Kapo, Upotreba Čoveka, Koje Volimo, Za Crnom Devojkom, Ibikina Kuća, Vere i Zavere, Dnevnik, Povratak Miru, Oko Svoje Ose, Škola Bezbožništva, Sećaj Se Večkrat Na Vali, and the play Cena Laži.
As in previous years, during the Literature Week of Kaleidoscope of Culture, there will be a Book Exchange in front of OPENS in the District starting at 7 p.m. The idea of the exchange is to find new readers for books that are no longer needed during the event.
The program is intended for people over 16 years old.
