Europe Day and Victory Day over fascism, 9 May, will be marked by several events in the European Capital of Culture. We are bringing suggestions on where to go the following Monday with your family, and we will reveal who will perform on this occasion.
Festival in the Liberty Square
When: 9 May, 5 – 10 p.m.
The anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which marks Europe Day and celebrates the anniversary of peace and unity in Europe, is one of the most significant holidays of the European Union. On this occasion, the European Capital of Culture will be a host to the Europe Festival, where EU countries, the Ministry of European Integration of the Republic of Serbia, and the European Movement in Serbia, will present themselves.
What Awaits Us in the Liberty Square?
During the Europe Festival from 5 until 8 p.m., the visitors will have a chance to see and taste everything that EU members have prepared for them at their stands. They will also have an opportunity to compete in 3×3 basketball and free throws with famous basketball players, take their children to the children’s corner or win interesting prizes in the EU knowledge quiz.
Maybe you’ve already noticed the mobile mural in the centre, which was created within the Artists in Residence initiative. It depicts the Future of Europe seen from the perspective of young European artists from Italy, North Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro and Albania. The mural will be officially presented in the Liberty Square in Novi Sad on that very day.
Who Performs at the Europe Festival?
We will have an opportunity to see the Better Together concert (from 8 p.m) by the Wester Balkans Youth Orchestra, which gathers 60 young musicians from Serbia and Eastern Balkans under the baton of Desar Sulejmani, who will be joined on stage by special guests: Ivana Peters, Frajle, Ana Stanić, Zoe Kida, Bilja Krstić, Kiki Lesendrić and Stevan B. Karanac. The concert programme includes several music genres, including classical, film, rock, pop and ethno music.
All programmes within the celebration of Europe Day are free of charge and open to all visitors. Europe Day is organised by the EU Delegation to the Republic of Serbia.
Concerts in the Fabrika Student Cultural Centre
When: 9 May, 7 p.m.
Victory Day over fascism and Europe Day will be marked by the ‘Rhythm of Europe!’ manifestation organised by the Student Cultural Centre Novi Sad. This year, one of the most popular manifestations of this type in the region, will encompass music programme on the stage in the Creative District at 7 p.m. Performing at the stage are the Novi Sad band Plavi Ptičić, the Keckec and Severtrans band, who will play some of their newest songs, Kralj Čačka, who prepares a real rock’n’roll concert with a new band, and the Belgrade reggae band Eyesburn with the frontman Nemanja Kojić Kojot, who will, in addition to famous hits, play songs from the upcoming album ‘Troops of Light’.
The entrance is free of charge.
