The euphoria from the unforgettable Doček in the Suburbium of the Petrovaradin Fortress is slowly calming down, the impressions are settling down, and with our sincere congratulations and wishes for a happy and successful 2024, we bring you an overview of the events in the city where culture never sleeps. January in Novi Sad will also be marked by the artistic celebration of Doček 7532, so it’s time to prepare for the spectacular programme that awaits us at almost 40 locations in the city on 13 January. If you haven’t secured your tickets for some of the great performances by local and international artists, here’s a tip – write it on your bucket list! Whom will perform at 7532 Doček?
After the spectacular entry into the year 2024 and the Doček event, which gathers artists, performers and numerous visitors in Suburbium, we are eagerly awaiting Doček 7532. This artistic celebration will not only mark the continuity of life in these areas, but will also celebrate the richness of Novi Sad’s interculturality, leading us through unusual concert venues and a diverse programme.
The District, as a new center of artistic creativity, is one of the main locations for Doček 7532, where the young scene of Serbia will be presented, bringing new sounds and trends to the Novi Sad audience. On New Year’s Eve, we listen to the bands KOIKOI, Kenny is not dead, Zhiva (read the interview HERE), Jowam and Rouzi, who will perform starting at 9 p.m.
The evening of 13 January will be filled with the sounds of harp and accordion virtuosos such as Catrin Finch and Richard Galliano, as well as music from the greatest film classics performed by the Novi Sad Big Band. At the same time, we will enjoy the authentic Turkish electro trio Islandman and the post-punk quartet from Liverpool Ladytron, as well as the recognizable names of the domestic electronic scene Marko Nastić, Runy and 2MUCH.
These performers join already announced prestigious names from the Berlin, London, Portuguese and French scenes, including electro star Matthew Johnson, alternative rock band Flamingods, fado diva Gisela Joao and one of the best a cappella groups – A Filetta.
The uniqueness of Doček is the presentation of big regional names in a different way. Vlatko Stefanovski in the newly opened cultural station on Telep, a guest appearance by Marko Louis and the Sopot band with the symphony orchestra of the National Theatre of the Republic of Srpska on the ‘Pera Dobrinović’ stage in the Serbian National Theatre.
The musical experience will be diverse, from Lena Kovačević‘s jazz at the Bukovac Cultural Station, through the favourite pop singer Željko Vasić at the Egység Cultural Station, to the concert of the popular pop-rock group Neverne Bebe at the Stepanovićevo Cultural Station. The alternative sound will dominate the scene in NIS, because Kanda, Kodža i Nebojša will have an unplugged performance. In the spirit of the Serbian New Year, nurturing tradition, Braća Teofilović will perform for the audience at the Kovilj Cultural Station, the Neda Nikolić Trio with guest Danijela Veselinović at the Barka Cultural Station, while one of the most prominent choirs in Serbia, Collegium Musicum, will perform at the Rumenka Cultural Station.

Current Exhibitions in Novi Sad
In Novi Sad, where culture pulsates at every step, even during the cold months, we strongly recommend that you take the time to walk around the centre and District, where several exhibitions worth your attention await you right now. Head from the Liman Park towards the District, where the sculpture dedicated to the pioneer of electronic music in this region, Mitar Subotić Suba, will first attract your attention. If you continue along the road towards the District, in the Fabrika 2 facility you can visit the Spirit of Place – A Century of the District exhibition and learn about the turbulent history of the former industrial complex over the last 100 years.
Residents of Novi Sad and visitors have a unique opportunity to see the work of the famous Gustav Klimt in the Gallery of Matica Srpska! The Paja Jovanović and Gustav Klimt exhibition, which continues to attract the attention of the public, marks an era through the works of two artists, in cooperation with as many as three museums: the Gallery of Matica Srpska, the Art and History Museum in Vienna and the Belvedere Gallery. While you’re at GMS, don’t miss the exhibition Pomorišac – Vasa Pomorišac, which will reveal to you the classic art of this artist through a modern perspective. January in Novi Sad is a sign of supreme art!
In the Theatre
January in Novi Sad cannot pass without a visit to one of the city’s theatres, and this month’s repertoire includes interesting performances that promise an excellent dose of art.
In the repertoire of the oldest theatre in Serbia, the Serbian National Theatre, there is one of the favourite ballets of this theatre – Zorba the Greek, which you can enjoy on 12 January. Our recommendation this month is also the play Bila Jednom Jedna Zemlja directed by Kokan Mladenović (17 and 18 January), then the Reunification of the Two Koreas (24 January) – a play that premiered at the end of November 2023. Don’t miss the ABBA Simphonic Real Tribute Show, scheduled for 26 January at 8 p.m. To round off the month, book an evening for a new performance of La Traviata, also premiering in November 2023.
The first puppet theatre in Vojvodina –Youth Theatre, this month also brings us exceptional performances for the youngest as well as older audience. We highlight the premiere performance of the play Wedding Bells on 30 January, while on the same day the repertoire includes the Beleške Jedne Ane, based on the novel of the same name by Momo Kapor, directed by Momčilo Miljković. In the Novi Sad Theatre this month, we can see Anna Karenina, directed by Dejan Projkovski, and we also highlight the play Captain Nemo – based on the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, directed by Zoltán Puskás.

The holiday euphoria continues
The spirit of the holiday is still present in Novi Sad, and while we look forward to the Orthodox Christmas, and then Doček 7532, we highly recommend a visit to the Christmas Magic festival on the plateau in front of SC Promenada. For the third year in a row, it traditionally gathers curious visitors, and the interesting music programme lasts until 10 January. Special joy for the youngest is provided by the Winter Wonderland festival entertainment area, as well as treats that you can buy in festively decorated wooden houses.
This January, take your little ones to the Novosadske Dečje BIG Zimzarije, which last until 12 January at SC BIG, and you can find the programme here. Fans of skating under the stars, in the beautifully decorated Danube Park, will enjoy the Ice Forest until 14 January.
