A Weekend for Children in the European Capital of Culture

A sunny weekend is ahead of us and a great opportunity to visit Novi Sad and take your little ones to one of the cultural events for children that we can recommend to you. The Fairy Tales of the Future programme of the European Capital of Culture brings us the opportunity to fantasise together, and we invite you to see the best European stories through plays, performances, and operas for children. We guarantee that your loved ones will enjoy them!

SATURDAY, 7 May

* The play Gulliver’s Travels will open the Novi Sad Theatre Festival and will be staged at four locations across the city. The play is scheduled for 7.15 p.m. on Danube Street. Age 5+

* As part of the festival of the same name, the play Invisible Lands will be performed at the Youth Theatre by artists from Finland, starting at 11 a.m. The play will be subtitled and is intended for children aged 14+.

* The play Duša ište pozorište in the Cultural Station Barka:

11.00 a.m. – Puppet workshop presentation and the play Pinocchio (Great Hall)

11.45 a.m. – Opening of the photo exhibition (Community Centre)

* Exhibition of children’s works Growing Up in the City of Culture and a concert of classical music for children in the Gallery of Matica Srpska

11.30 a.m and 12.30 p.m. – concerts of classical music for children will be held in two instances lasting half an hour; the first is for infants from 0 to 2 years, while the second concert is intended for children aged 2 to 6 years.

13.00 – an exhibition of children’s works

* Concerts of classical music for children titled Ksenija and the Bishop will be held in CC Mladost in Futog at 10 a.m., and in the Egység Cultural Station at 12 p.m.

* Multimedia exhibition of children’s and youth artworks, Drawings Travel Through Time, is waiting for you in Radionica in the Creative District.

SUNDAY, 8 May

*Opera for children The Magic Flute awaits you at the Svilara Cultural Station, starting at 5 p.m. The event will be presented as part of the Europe XXL project.

* The opera for children by Franjo Štefanović, Woodland Queen, will be also staged as part of the Fairy Tales of the Future programme at the Egység Cultural Station at 6 p.m. Admission is free, and the number of seats is limited.

*The puppet show The Emperor’s New Clothes will be staged at the Youth Theatre at 7 p.m. as part of the Novi Sad Theatre Festival. Age: 6+

* Do You Believe in Fairy Tales theatre festival, which will be staged at the Rumenka Cultural Centre, brings us several events during the afternoon:

5 p.m. – ‘An Evening with a Fairy Tale’ will present to the youngest audience the most popular fairy tales with a video projection in cooperation with the children’s department of the Novi Sad City Library

5.30 p.m. – Musical intermission inspired by a fairy tale

6 p.m. – Music and stage programme ‘It’s my music’ performed by the band Lilihip Lilihop, inspired by music and fairy tales ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty’

7 p.m. – Performance of the play ‘The Princesses with an Attitude’ (interactive shadow puppetry play), co-produced by Le Studio and the Rumenka Cultural Centre
